Released to mark 30 years since their first UK No. 1, this is according to the sticker on the box, Volume I of a series of box sets devoted to the hit-making partnership of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, bringing together 31 hit releases from 31 different artists. Each CD single is remastered and presented in an individual card sleeve replicating the original vinyl artwork, and has been expanded to include 12” mixes, B-Sides, and bonus cuts. The box set boasts over 250 tracks, many previously unreleased or on CD for the very first time, making this collection a must-have for all SAW fans and collectors of '80s pop. I am super impressed with the overall quality of this. The remastered sound recordings as well as the print/production quality of the individual CD covers are pretty amazing, plus, the actual outer-box is both clever and classy (it is designed in homage to the gold and silver disc-packed walls of the PWL Hit Factory).I got this mostly for some of the singles that I liked back in the day but was too young to buy, but I was surprised to discover some never heard gems, too! Some of the songs still sound mighty fine to this day, proof that not everything by the PWL Hit Factory was factory-made generic stuff (some was exactly that, though!). Special mention for the brilliantly compiled 48-page glossy booklet that features lyrics, discography, commentary from P. Waterman, and brand new sleeve notes; informative, comprehensive and well-designed. The set comes also with an exclusive sticker sheet of logos of the artists featured, and 3 random postcards. Overall, the box set is a fitting tribute to the most successful and prolific writing and production team in UK chart history.
