The entire breadth of human experience - both earthly and metaphysical - seems to be captured in Mahler's symphonies. Finding expression with the utmost grandeur, with yearning romanticism, with brutal force, or with the simplicity of folk song, they make an unforgettable impact. The composer's music was such a defining force during Klaus Tennstedt's time as Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic that The Sunday Times proclaimed: ""There is no greater Mahler conductor in the world today.""CD ListingCD 1: Symphony No. 1 & Symphony No. 2 ""Resurrection"" ICD 2: Symphony No. 2 ""Resurrection"" II-VCD 3: Symphony No. 3 I-VCD 4: Symphony No. 3 VI & Symphony No. 4CD 5: Symphony No. 5CD 6: Symphony No. 7 I-IVCD 7: Symphony No. 7 V & Symphony No. 6 I-IIICD 8: Symphony No. 6 IV & Symphony No. 8 Part ICD 9: Symphony No. 8 Part IICD 10: Symphony No. 9 I-IIICD 11:Symphony No. 9 IV & Symphony No. 10 Adagio
I’m no expert, not a musician, but deeply love music and happen to own a lot of Mahler (my fav composer). To my ears this set sounds fantastic and Tennstedt is among the very best Mahlerians. I’m extremely happy to have this in my collection. IMHO, it’s a definite green light.
