First time user. This time of year I wear baggy sweathirts. Plus a shirt-jac. One or both can be medium or heavy weight, depending on the forecast. Today medium weight on both. The patch is stuck on the outside surface of the sweatshirt.I cannot even tell it is there unless something pushes that portion of the patch up to my skin; like right now I'm sitting in a chair my back pressed up to the back of the chair and I can feel the warmth. If I get up, that slight pressure is gone and the pad looses contact with my back and…no heating. Tried tucking shirt into pants, pad's up a bit too high for contact. Even tried a second belt to secure the pad, but that didn't work well enough to continue trying it.Am wondering about trying top put it on the INSIDE of the shirt…if that would have any effect.I like the heating it gives when, like at this minute, the patch and the intermediary clothing is in intimate contact with my back. I'm about 6'2", 80 yrs old, and weigh about 205#.Would like to know what others have experienced. I'm giving it 4* waiting to discover the "trick",Edit: I wonder is putting this on an Ace Bandage (as in the things you wrap a twisted ankle with) would solve the problem?I found that if I hold up the pad and make sure the contents are evenly distributed, then it works perfectly every time. It is difficult to get it on one's back the first time, and I wish it would accommodate multiple applications better. Also works best if I wear a sweater or jacket that presses it closer to my back. Lasts all day. These heat pads are a miracle to my sore backafter gardening!!!Best for the price, and it works!I only wish they were a little larger, but they stick really well on your clothes and heat up very good. These little heat pads are awesome! For the price, I was expecting them to only be so-so in terms of heat, but these stay warm-hot for hours. I've worn them for 14hrs at a go and they are still slightly warm at the end of it. I've been applying overtop of lidocaine patches since they advise again direct skin contact. I generally wear some form of compression clothing (like leggings if on thigh or a sports bra if shoulder) to help the patch stay put UNDER clothing, as I can't imagine much benefit coming from OVER clothing as the instructions suggest. Don't be afraid to apply UNDER your clothing - they get pretty warm but it's not going to burn you unless you have extremely thin or sensitive skin. I've applied traditional heat pads in the past warmed by boiling or microwaving and THOSE are hot enough to burn. These don't get to boiling point! The lidocaine patch underneath mine is the perfect barrier and I get the benefits from both patches for 12+hrs. Really great deal!Bought these in March of 2017, but never had the occasion to use one until Nov 2017. Pulled something in my back splitting firewood. Decided to try one of these.Package is thin plastic, airtight to keep the air activated reaction from starting until you open package. Easy to open. Plastic has a small nick to start the tear. Tear open, remove heating pad. Pad has adhesive on the shiny side, and the air side is a material/cloth that is breathable to allow air into the iron to kick off the reaction that create the heat.So realtime review: I adhered the pad around 8PM, lower back, under a shirt. Sat around for a few hours, pad did not pull off, and generated a nice warm heat. It is now 9AM the next day, and it's still warm, and still where I put it. I was sure it would have pulled off during the night while sleeping and turning over, etc. but nope, still stuck to my back. The granules were loose when I opened the package, but now it feels stiff, as if the granules formed a solid mass. The mass did conform to my back, so it is not uncomfortable at all, and still oh so warm. Just great. This product definitely lives up the the 12 hours in the description. Was doubtful, but 13 hours later, still heating. Now the ouchie...how much hair will I pull of when I yank it? (TMI).This product was recommended to me. The only downside is that you must put it on your clothing and due to my experience, your clothing must not be very thick or you will not feel the heat. You cannot put this directly on your skin. I was disappointed in not feeling the heat although I did put it on a thinner piece of clothing but it seems like you had to press it against your body to feel the heat.
