I grew up in Memphis but moved away before these guys topped the charts. still, we got Memphis radio and I heard about the dances at Lakeland park--boxtops often played there. they had a nice group of hit tunes most written by dan penn and spooner Oldham and "soul deep "by wayne carson Thompson("suspicious mind").there are only a couple of reasons to purchase this rather than the latest best of but one of them is a doozy--all tracks in original mono. my, my, my! does this sound great or what. the sound is much fuller and more rocking soulful than in the thin setereo. the other upside is a few additional cuts are included although to be fair I program the player to skip them.they weren't the beatles but they created some fine southern blue eyed soul.
