Product Description

“Little Boxes” showcases a unique style of poetry in which each poem is a short story told in only 100 syllables. One hundred poems, ten thousand syllables. The subjects include culture, love, relationships, being a kid, struggling with parents, personal psychology, death, art, and memory. In other words, the full spectrum. And with the variety of subjects come a variety of moods. Many of the poems are humorous, some are self-reflective, and all of them are commentaries on contemporary life.

I must be honest. I've never cared for poetry. Granted, I've tried, bought a few poetry books, but no. Then I ran into Jim Woessner's Little Boxes, and suddenly there it was, a language so naked, funny, sad, and so visual in its form. I can't really tell whether it's Mr. Woessner's writing or the box poem form that made me change my mind about poetry. Or maybe both. He's managing to tell heartfelt stories using the 10 by 10 format. It's quite brilliant. Bring it on, Mr Woessner. I'll buy the next book you write.
